Man hit and killed by train in Clayton County

Update: The Clayton County Sheriff’s Department has identified the man killed by the train as 39-year-old Jeffery Werger of Garnivillo.

Previous story:

A man was killed by a train in northeast Iowa over the weekend.

The Clayton County Sheriff’s Department says deputies and medics were dispatched in Clayton around 11:50 Saturday night. The office says a man was struck by a southbound train and was pronounced dead later at the Guttenberg Hospital.

The man’s name has not been released. The incident is being investigated.
