A 35-year-old Indianola man is in custody after an armed stand-off overnight that prompted authorities to evacuate and shut down nearby businesses.

Police say they were checking on Quinten McMurry’s welfare when he barricaded himself in his apartment and threatened to set off explosives. He lives just off Indianola’s courthouse square.

The area was blocked off shortly after the standoff began. Just after midnight, a tactical team stormed the apartment and McMurry was taken into custody.

Police say he has mental health issues and he was first taken to a hospital. He’s now in the Warren County Jail. McMurry has been charged with first-degree harassment and with making the threat of terrorism.
