Missing Dayton man’s body found in Des Moines River

June 21, 2016 By Radio Iowa Contributor

Fire-truck-emergency-servSearchers this morning recovered the body of a man who went missing in the Des Moines River, in Lehigh, early Sunday.

The body of 23-year-old Colin James Murphy was found downstream from where search crews were focusing their main effort along the Des Moines River. Murphy was reported missing early Sunday morning after he failed to surface while swimming.

Murphy was a reserve police officer for the Dayton Police Department, plus a volunteer firefighter in the Dayton Fire Department.

A fisherman last saw Murphy struggling in the water near the Main Street bridge in Lehigh. Lehigh’s “River Days” celebration was being held this past weekend. Dozens of volunteers started searching the river early Sunday.
