The Benton Community softball team has high hopes as the regular season winds down. After finishing as the runner-up in class 3A a year ago the Bobcats are top ranked and 25-2 heading into tonight’s doubleheader at Center Point-Urbana.

The Bobcats have won eight straight games and all of them by shutout.

“I feel like we are playing really well right”, said Benton coach Eric Stenberg. “Our kids have really bought in to focusing on each game and getting better and we have had a great couple of weeks of softball.”

Senior Amber Fiser leads a pitching staff that has already tossed 21 shutouts this season. Fiser has allowed only seven runs in 94 innings of work and has recorded 200 strikeouts. Fellow senior Alyssa Wiebel leads the way at the plate. She is batting .513 with 11 homers and leads a lineup that carries a .381 average.

“We are very balanced and we can put up runs and hit the ball well up and down the lineup. I have been really happy with our entire lineup.”
