One rider killed, one injured in RAGBRAI accidents

July 25, 2016 By Matt Kelley

Police-lights-300x192Two separate accidents in southwest Iowa Sunday marred the first day of RAGBRAI, leaving one bicyclist on the ride dead, another badly hurt.

State troopers say a pickup truck hit and killed a cyclist near Glenwood on Sunday morning. The patrol identifies the victim as 72-year-old Wayne Ezell of Jacksonville, Florida. No charges were filed against the pickup driver who says he didn’t see the cyclist.

On Sunday night, a pickup truck hauling a trailer hit a tent in Shenandoah, a tent in which a cyclist was sleeping. The truck dragging the man and the tent about 50 feet. Sixty-seven-year-old James Foley of Middleburg, Florida, is being treated at a hospital in Omaha for what are described as serious injures. There’s no word on charges against that pickup driver.
