Hawkeyes focus on sour finish

The Iowa Hawkeyes are more focused on their 0-2 finish to last season than they are a 12-0 regular season. After running the table the Hawkeyes lost to Michigan State in the Big Ten Championship and were humbled in the Rose Bowl by Stanford.

Junior linebacker Josey Jewell says those losses helped fuel off season workouts.

“The big thing that has been sticking in our heads as players from last year is the last two games and how we finished”, said Jewell. “We did not want to finish like that so we are focusing on that and trying to get better.”

The Hawkeye face lofty expectations coming into the new season and Jewell says it is up to the team leaders to help manage those expectations.

“Holding everybody accountable is the biggest thing throughout the summer and the off season.”

The Hawkeyes open the season on September third against Miami of Ohio.
