Accident kills two from Davenport

August 4, 2016 By Matt Kelley

Police-lights-300x192Two Davenport residents were killed in a crash this morning that’s blamed on a motorist who was driving the wrong way on a four-lane highway.

It happened just before 4:30 a.m. on Highway 61 near Blue Grass in Muscatine County. According to an Iowa State Patrol report, a pickup driven by 36-year-old Zach Whitsel was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes and collided head-on with a car driven by 51-year-old Charles Dibbern.

Both drivers died at the scene. Both men were from Davenport. The patrol reports, for now, it’s unknown why Whitsel was traveling in the wrong direction on the highway.
