Firefighters were sent to a home on Cedar Rapids’ southeast side (1056 10th Ave SE) just before 4 a.m. The occupant of the home was outside and credited his two dogs for waking him and alerting him to the fire that started in a bathroom.

The home has smoke alarms, but they failed to sound. The fire was quickly brought under control and damage to the home is described as “moderate.” No one was injured.

The fire department report did not identify the man’s name, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
