Body of missing boater recovered on the Missouri River

August 25, 2016 By Dar Danielson

AmbulanceThe body of a boater who has been missing since Sunday afternoon was recovered in the Missouri River Wednesday.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says the body of 42-year-old Jason Grayson of Elliot was found in the Missouri River just south of the Iowa-Missouri border. Grayson had been missing after the 16-foot aluminum, v-bottomed fishing boat he was riding in capsized and was swept under a barge moored to the bank downstream from the Hamburg Mitchell Access Landing.

The operator of the boat, 47-year-old Johnnie Fields of Shenandoah was able to swim under the barge where he was rescued from the shore by witnesses on the scene. Fields and Grayson had just launched the boat Sunday afternoon when the boat motor stalled.
