Investigators say woman accidentally shot to death by brother

AmbulanceThe victim of an apparent accidental shooting in western Iowa has been identified.

The shooting happened late Sunday morning east of Lake View. The Sac County Sheriff’s reported a woman was shot while sitting in the driver’s seat of car when a gun, being handled by a her brother in the front passenger seat, accidentally fired.

An obituary notice from Twigg Funeral Homes identified the victim as 24-year-old Megan Sloss. A doctor driving by stopped to help until Sloss was taken to the Sac County Hospital and then was flown to a Des Moines hospital where she died.

She attended Guthrie Center Schools, Central College and was currently a master’s student at the University of Iowa studying social services. No charges have been filed while police continue to investigate the shooting.
