Tyson to expand Council Bluffs plant and add 350 jobs

TysonTyson Foods is planning an expansion of its Council Bluffs facility.

Tyson Foods says its Tyson Fresh Meats subsidiary in Council Bluffs will spend $27 million to expand production at the plant to be able to make more of its beef and pork products and meal kits that it distributes to grocery stores.

A company news release says the expansion will allow them to add 350 jobs to bring the total number of employees to 1,400 The company also operates a pepperoni plant in Council Bluffs and a bacon plant in Omaha, for a total of 2,000 employees in the Council Bluffs-Omaha area.

Work on the expansion in Council Bluffs is already underway, and the company says it should be completed by July of 2017.
