October 2, 2016 By O. Kay Henderson

Crime Scene TapeA women was shot and killed early today in southeast Iowa and the woman’s mother has told local media she knows the shooter.

Early this Sunday morning, just after midnight, Keokuk Police received a report of shots fired in an alley near a bar. Officers found 29-year-old Carissa Rivers in the alley. Her death has been ruled a homicide.

Carissa River’s mother told WGEM in Quincy, Illinois, that she believes her daughter’s ex-boyfriend was the shooter. Catherine Rivers said her daughter recently left the man after he had threatened to kill her.

The Iowa Department of Public Safety has called the shooting an “isolated event” and, according to an agency news release, “the public is not in danger.” However, authorities are not yet identifying a suspect.
