Iowa City car parts plant to cut hundreds of workers

October 21, 2016 By Matt Kelley

international-auto-partsAn eastern Iowa factory that makes auto parts is drastically cutting its workforce by several hundred jobs.

International Automotive Components in Iowa City plans to scale back production of two full lines of parts for the Dodge Dart, which is being phased out, and for the Jeep Compass and Patriot, as production of those vehicles is being moved out of the region.

The plant has about 600 hourly workers now, which will be cut to 160 by the end of the year. Another three-dozen salaried workers will also be let go for a total of almost 480 jobs in Iowa City being cut.
