Le Mars ice cream company seeks state aid for expansion

October 21, 2016 By Radio Iowa Contributor

wells-logo_v1Representatives of Well’s Enterprises of Le Mars are asking the Iowa Economic Development Authority Board for state tax incentive amounting to three million dollars.

Well’s Enterprises Communications Manager, Leslie Bartholomew, says they are planning to expand their South Ice Cream Plant

She says they plan to make the expansion to add two new production lines whether they get the state help or not. The expansion would create 81 more jobs. Well’s had received the support of the Le Mars City Council earlier in the month for the tax incentives.

Bartholomew says the plans for expansion are already moving ahead and people in Le Mars might notice some activity into next year. “We should be ready to go by May of next year with that expansion of the plant, so you’ll see groundbreaking and all kinds of things happening around that plant,” Bartholomew says. The company is investing more than 40 million dollars into the plant expansion.
