According to a Union County Sheriff’s report, a Creston police officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop on 24-year-old Casey Welcher in the city of Creston. Welcher attempted to elude the officer by failing to stop.

Welcher continued to flee the officer by driving south on the Hi and Dry Road out of Creston.Welcher then turned west on Union County road H-37 or 205th Street. By this time, a second police vehicle joined the pursuit, which lasted several minutes. Welcher came into contact with both vehicles multiple times, with one sustaining $8,000 in damage. After ending up in a ditch, Welcher fled on foot but was apprehended minutes later.

Once apprehended, Welcher was arrested and charged with attempted murder, eluding, first-degree criminal mischief , driving while barred and OWI 3rd offense. He is being held in the Union County Jail.
