Ames woman charged in husband’s death

Police-lightsAmes police say what was first reported as an accidental shooting is a murder.

Police were called to a home early on October 21st where they found 36-year-old Harland (Jesse) Cummings of Ames dead from a gunshot wound to the head. Officers were told the shooting was accidental, but say after interviewing witnesses, getting autopsy results and additional forensic evidence, they have charged his wife.

Thirty-five-year-old Candace Cummings is charged with first-degree murder. Candace Cummings is being held in the Story County Jail.
