The second funeral for the central Iowa police officers killed last week will take place today in a small town in Calhoun County.

The service to honor 24-year-old Urbandale officer Justin Martin is at the South Calhoun Middle School in his hometown of Rockwell City.  It will start at 11:40, which was the officer’s badge number.

Martin was shot to death early last Wednesday while on patrol in Urbandale. Urbandale police department spokesman Sergeant Chad Underwood says the entire 50 member Urbandale department will board buses and attend today’s funeral.

Underwood says officers from West Des Moines, Iowa State Patrol Troopers, county deputies and officers from other communities will cover all calls in the city while the Urbandale officers say goodbye to their colleague.

Some 1,500 officers from across the state and the country attended the funeral for Des Moines Officer Tony Beminio who was shot to death while responding to Martin’s shooting, and most of those same officers are also expected to be there today too.
