Prison time for Iowa man who tried to lure children on Craigslist

November 10, 2016 By Matt Kelley

dci-logoA southeast Iowa man was sentenced to 20 years in prison Wednesday following his arrest two years ago related to a Craigslist ad. Kevin Carpenter, 51, of Mount Pleasant, pleaded guilty earlier this year to enticement of a minor.

The U.S. Attorney’s office for the Southern District of Iowa reports, in July 2014, Carpenter posted a Craigslist ad entitled, “Looking for young boy.” An agent with the Iowa DCI responding to the ad, claiming to be a 15-year-old boy. Carpenter arranged a meeting with the “child” for sex, but was arrested at the meeting site.

Police said an exam of his electronic devices showed Carpenter had been communicating with other minors in a similar manner.
