Woman charged with stealing $82K from drug treatment program

November 11, 2016 By Radio Iowa Contributor

handcuffsA Des Moines woman is jailed on suspicion of embezzling more than 82-thousand dollars from the Substance Abuse Treatment Unit of Central Iowa.

Thirty-six-year-old Amy Howell was arrested and charged with theft, ongoing criminal conduct and forgery.

Howell was the finance coordinator for SATUCI, the nonprofit agency that provides substance abuse prevention and treatment services in Marshall, Tama, Poweshiek and Hardin counties.

Marshalltown police began investigating in August and say Howell stole $82,269 from the agency between April 2014 and July 2016.

Howell remained in the Marshall County Jail.
