Elgin man injured after hitting and killing cow in roadway

November 14, 2016 By Radio Iowa Contributor

Sheriff-patrolIowa motorists are warned to be on-guard for deer, especially at this time of year, but a northeast Iowa driver likely wasn’t prepared for another unusual obstacle.

A rural Elgin man was injured after his vehicle hit a cow early Friday morning. The Fayette County Sheriff’s Department says shortly after midnight, a vehicle driven by 59-year-old Steven Peters hit a cow that was in the roadway on Highway 18 west of West Union.

Peters was transported to Palmer Lutheran Hospital in West Union after being pulled from the vehicle. The cow was killed in the accident.
