Former Chariton credit union bookkeeper sentenced to prison for embezzlement

November 16, 2016 By Matt Kelley

GavelA southeast Iowa woman will serve time in prison for stealing millions of dollars from her employer.

Sixty-eight-year-old Linda Lee Clark of Corydon admitted in July to embezzling nearly $2.5 million over a 37 year period while she was a bookkeeper for a credit union in Chariton. She was sentenced on Tuesday to six-and-a-half years in prison and ordered to repay the money.

Clark kept two sets of records in order to hide the theft. Her actions forced the credit union into liquidation and assets were transferred an Ottumwa credit union. Deposits were federally insured.
