A woman who served 17 years on the West Des Moines Police Department sued the city and her chief, claiming she was victim of sexual discrimination. The city is agreeing to pay Sergeant Tanya Zaglauer Schmell $1.9 million — and she’ll have to resign.

Chief Shaun LaDue resigned on Sunday at the request of city officials. Two other women sued West Des Moines on similar grounds, a former animal control officer and a crime analyst. Their settlements ranged from $30,000 to $150,000.
