Former Temple University president is first finalist for UNI president

November 28, 2016 By Dar Danielson

uni-logoThe finalists in the search for a new University of Northern Iowa president will visit campus this week.

The first candidate announced by the Board of Regents is former Temple University president Neil Theobald. The Temple University website says Theobald took over at Temple in 2012, but received a vote of no confidence from the board of trustees in July of this year after Theobald fired the university provost following a deficit in the school’s financial aid budget. The trustees had planned a meeting to remove Theobald, but he resigned.

Theobald will visit the UNI campus Tuesday and hold an open forum from 2:30 until 3:45 at the student union. There were four finalists selected, but one pulled out. The names of the other two finalists will be announced prior to their visits to campus Wednesday and Thursday.

The Board of Regents hopes to select a new president on December 6th.
