wma-signA suspicious death investigation is underway in southwest Iowa’s Fremont County. Sheriff Kevin Aistrope says a body was found in the Waubonsie Access Wildlife Management Area, beneath the Highway 2 Missouri River bridge linking Iowa and Nebraska.

“We got a call from some hunters at 8:24 a.m. on Sunday and they just advised that there was a body there,” Aistrope said. The body, that of an adult male, was sent to the State Medical Examiner’s office in Ankeny.

Aistrope is not ruling out foul play. “It’s considered suspicious,” Aistrope said. “There are just some things at the scene that makes it suspicious.”

While investigators wait for autopsy results and an identification on the body, Aistrope is asking for the public’s help. “If anybody knows anything, I’d sure appreciate them calling us,” Aistrope said.

There are no open missing persons cases in the area, according to Aistrope. Anyone with information about the case should contact the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office at 712-374-2424.
