Man charged in fatal Des Moines accident

December 13, 2016 By Matt Kelley

Police-lightsPolice have filed charges in connection with a fatal motorcycle crash nearly two months ago in Des Moines.

The crash happened at an intersection on Des Moines’ northwest side on the night of October 22. Twenty-two-year-old Edwin Ramirez of Des Moines died after his motorcycle slammed into an SUV. The driver of the SUV was not seriously injured.

Investigators said Ramirez was speeding and was not wearing a helmet. On Monday, police announced the arrest of a Johnston man who they say was involved in a “speed contest” with Ramirez.

Twenty-two-year-old Crellin Hornsby was allegedly driving a motorcycle alongside Ramirez at the time of the crash. Hornsby is charged with vehicular homicide by reckless driving and vehicular homicide by drag racing.
