An eastern Iowa man will serve five years in prison for setting a car on fire with a Molotov cocktail.
Court information shows 48-year-old Theodore Cooke of Davenport went to the residence of his girlfriend on November 2nd of last year and tried to get her to come outside. After she refused to come out, he lit a Molotov cocktail on fire and threw it at a parked car which then caught fire.
No one was injured, but the Molotov cocktail is considered a destructive device under federal law and must be registered as a firearm. Cooke had two prior felony convictions for burglary and was charged with being a felon in possession of an unregistered firearm. Cooke also has prior convictions for assault with injury, simple assault, cruelty to animals, and assault.
He pleaded guilty to the charge in August and Wednesday was sentenced to 60 months in prison.
