Two arrested in Waterloo shooting which injured young boy

December 16, 2016 By Radio Iowa Contributor

Police have arrested two people in connection with a shooting Thursday night that injured a 9-year-old boy in Waterloo.

Maryo Lindsey, 21, and Aundrey Roberts, Jr., 23, both of Waterloo, were taken into custody on multiple charges Friday morning. The charges against Lindsey include: going armed with intent, willful bodily injury, carry weapons, possession of weapons by a felon, and intimidation with a weapon. Roberts was charged with willful body injury and intimidation with a weapon.

Just before 8 p.m. Thursday, Waterloo police were dispatched to the 1200 block of W. Mullan Ave. on a report of shots fired. When they arrived, officers discovered that a residence at 1241 W. Mullan had been hit multiple times with bullets.

According to police, the 9-year-old victim was lying on the couch inside the home when one of the bullets struck him in the hip. The boy’s injury is non-life threatening, police said.

Officers searched the area and found multiple shell casings at the scene, said Waterloo police Captain Dave Mohlis. He added that witnesses gave investigating officers both vehicle and suspect descriptions, which helped them identify Lindsey and Roberts as the apparent suspects in the shooting.
