Des Moines Police have issued more information about a hit and run that badly injured a child.

Police say a six-year-old boy stepped into a roadway and was struck by a car last Thursday at 6:10 p.m. It happened on the city’s north side near Meredith Middle School. The car left the scene before police and rescue personnel arrived.

The boy suffered serious injuries and remains hospitalized, but his condition is improving, according to a news release. Des Moines Police say witnesses described the hit and run vehicle as a dark-colored sedan and the driver as a young, white male, who was a wearing a baseball cap.
