Suspected natural gas explosion destroys Des Moines home

September 13, 2019 By O. Kay Henderson

A Des Moines home was destroyed and several others damaged early this morning in an explosion authorities suspect was caused by a natural gas leak.

Des Moines Police and Fire Departments got a report about the explosion at about 3:15 this morning. No injuries have been reported.

Five blocks around the explosion site are blocked off.

Des Moines Police expect the street closure to last up to three days as investigators and utility technicians work in the area.
