Man who spent nearly 41 years in prison dies of heart attack

A man accused of a string of crimes in Polk and Marshall Counties and sentenced to life in prison decades ago has died.

Everett Roy Lyon was convicted by a judge of first degree murder in Marshall County. He had been in prison for nearly 41 years. Lyon was taken to a hospital in Burlington for treatment of a suspected heart attack and died at the hospital shortly before 4 a.m. today.
