A Marshalltown man faces nearly two years in prison after pleading guilty to insurance fraud linked to two major storms.
Court information shows 32-year-old Timothy Sletten presented false work invoices from contractors for repairs to his rental homes in Marshalltown following the EF-3 tornado in 2018. Sletten was paid benefits totaling a little more than $180,000. State Farm opened an internal investigation when he filed more disaster-related claims after the 2020 derecho, and that led to his guilty plea.
Sletten was sentenced to 21 months in a fedearl prison and fined 50-thousand dollars. He was also ordered to pay full restitution.
