Two people are dead and a police officer was hurt during a chase in southeastern Iowa on Sunday afternoon.

Reports say Muscatine police were responding to calls about a woman in an SUV firing shots at people as she sped through town.

An officer intercepted the SUV and tried to pull it over, but the driver sped away.

Multiple law enforcement agencies were involved in the pursuit, which crossed into Washington County.  The chase ended on Highway 218 when the suspect’s car collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle.

Both drivers were killed. State troopers identify the suspect as 36-year-old Brittany Miles, while the other driver was 27-year-old Olivia Alvarez, both of Cedar Rapids.

During the chase, KCRG-TV reports a Muscatine police officer lost control and crashed. He was rushed to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

No one was reported hurt in the shootings in Muscatine.
