Governor Kim Reynolds is asking for a federal disaster declaration for four western Iowa counties hit by a blizzard on March 19th.
The governor is requesting a federal disaster designation for Crawford, Harrison, Monona, and Woodbury counties. The storm toppled trees, and miles of power poles were pulled down along with power lines, leaving thousands without electricity. The request says the federal and state assessments estimated damage to public infrastructure and private property at more than eight million dollars.
The presidential designation would provide FEMA Public Assistance funds for the restoration of damaged utilities, debris removal, and other emergency measures.
