Authorities in central Iowa are asking the public for help in spotting a distinctive — and stolen — vehicle.
The 2017 Dodge Charger is bright yellow with a black hood, roof and trunk.
Its owner met with an interested buyer on Sunday afternoon in Des Moines, but during a test drive, the buyer pulled a handgun and carjacked the vehicle.
Des Moines police connected the dots to an accomplice vehicle where someone was spotted earlier switching license plates in West Des Moines.
They reached out to Ames police, who found the accomplice vehicle — and the accused 17-year-old carjacker.
He’s now in custody on a string of charges, including for the handgun police recovered that was stolen in Illinois. The Charger though is still missing.
If you see the yellow-and-black Dodge, contact the Des Moines Police Department right away.
