One person was killed in a four-vehicle accident on Interstate 35 in Hamilton County on Tuesday afternoon.

The Iowa State Patrol says 68-year-old Reed Peterson of Mason City was northbound on the interstate shortly after 2:40 PM.

He crossed the median near the 147 mile marker and hit the rear trailer tires of a semi driven by 37-year-old Serghei Gornostali of Bartlett, Illinois, and after that impact, was struck another time by another semi driven by 29-year-old Funugo Nsanzinfura of Louisville, Kentucky.

Another vehicle driven by 23-year-old Caleb Jacobsen of Dows was struck by that semi with those two vehicles going into the west ditch.

Peterson was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

All the others involved in the accident were treated and released.
