Davenport police officers had to chase down a fleeing suspect -twice- on Wednesday. Police Sergeant Bruce McKee says the man was wanted for suspicious activity near a home and was taken into custody after a brief chase near the downtown. McKee says he was then taken to a hospital to be checked for injuries — when he escaped. Police went into immediate action to search the hospital and secure the area when witnesses said the suspect was seen running away, still wearing handcuffs. McKee says 18 officers joined in the chase. Police responded quickly and the man tried to hide. There was a short foot chase and the man was taken into custody a few blocks from the hospital. The suspect, 33-year-old Harley Harper of Davenport, is facing several charges. He’s wanted on a domestic abuse warrant and McKee says the suspect will likely face escape and other charges, including suspicious activity at a residence.
