The entry fee for a three-on-three basketball tournament near the state capitol building has been slashed in an effort to draw more teams. The May 7th “Hoopin’ at the Dome” is run by the Iowa Games and executive director Jim Hallihan says the entry fee for each team has been lowered from 80 to 55 dollars. Hallihan says they have to compete against tournaments that don’t cost anything because they’re held at schools. Hallihan says with entries surging in other programs like “Lighten Up Iowa” it gives them a chance to reduce some prices in tournaments like this and some team sports in the summer games without taking a financial hit. There are divisions offered from fourth grade to 40-and-over as well as a six-foot and under division. Hallihan says three-on-three emphasizes the fundamentals of basketball with a lot of pick and rolls and screens and pivots. The entry deadline is April 20th.
