Iowa State coach Dan McCarney says a battle for the job of starting quarterback will resume during preseason practice. Bret Meyer quarterbacked the cardinal team and finished 9-of-21 for 84-yards and an interception. He says they’ll list Meyer and Austin Flynn on the same line coming out of the game. He says that’s very accurate based on what they’ve seen this spring.McCarney says Meyer has a great future ahead, and he says there was a tremendous crowd and that may’ve played a role in his uneven play. McCarney says the good news is that Meyer has four years left and Flynn has three. McCarney feels the Cyclones accomplished what they needed during the spring. He says they got out of spring without any major injuries. He says they have a long way to go before the season opener in the fall, but he says there’s no question they improved as a team in the spring. The Cyclones will open the 2004 season against U-N-I.
