The Iowa Right-to-Life Committee wants a specialty license plate to raise money for adoption agencies. The group has designed a “choose life” license plate and hopes gathering signatures will convince Iowa lawmakers and the Governor to approve the plate. Kim Gordon, the executive director of the Iowa Right-to-Life Committee, says 12 other states have similar license plates and have raised thousands of dollars.Gordon says the money would be used for agencies that support women who place their children up for adoption. Gordon says the “choose life” plates would cost 35 dollars the first year, and 15 dollars every year after that — on top of the regular car registration fee. House Republican Leader Chuck Gipp of Decorah says the state could issue these plates without legislative approval but the Iowa Right-to-Life Committee has hit a snag.Gipp says the group has “pre-sold” 500 plates, but has been unable to get a state agency to “sponsor” the “choose life” plate. That’s why the group is pushing a bill in the legislature that would force the D-O-T to issue their plate.
