It was a 25-year-old man who kept Des Moines police at bay outside his home early this morning. Twenty-five-year-old Robert Rivas has been charged with attempted murder and terrorism. His girlfriend called police at about one o’clock this morning after she says Rivas told her over the phone that he was going to kill himself. Cops who went to the man’s house say Rivas fired as many as 35 shots at police. A nearly eight-hour standoff ensued before Rivas surrendered. He told police he had taken a bunch of pills, so he was first taken to a hospital before being booked.
