Iowa’s airports likely won’t see new, low-fare carriers as the airline industry reels after last Tuesday’s terrorist attacks. Des Moines airport manager Bill Flannery. He says they have an ongoing battle with carriers that aren’t currently serving Des Moines, and he says that won’t change in the next few months. Airlines are reducing the number of flights to try and cut losses.Flannery says airport passenger traffic is expected to be down 60 percent in the next two weeks.Flannery says his airport has instituted all the new F-A-A-required security regulations — at a cost of one-point-two million, and he hopes the federal government helps airports cover those unexpected costs.
