The Iowa Concern Hotline has seen more than a tripling in its call volume since Tuesday’s terrorist attacks. The hotline offers a variety of services, including being an information clearinghouse for things like where to give blood or get legal advice. Coordinator Margaret Van Ginkel says the overwhelming majority of calls since Tuesday have focused only on the attacks. On an ordinary day, the hotline takes in 25 to 30 calls. Van Ginkel says in each of the past two days, they’ve received about one hundred. Extra staff have been called in to work longer hours. She says even hotline counselors needed a little counseling after sessions like yesterday’s marathon. The hotline is toll-free and confidential at 800 447-1985. Iowans interested in helping donate goods, services or cash to the recovery effort can call the same number.
