Four firefighters were hurt battling a blaze last night in the eastern Iowa town of Clinton. Crews are still on the scene this morning after the fire reported about eight o’clock last night spread to five downtown Clinton businesses and nearly a dozen apartments. Battalion Chief David Ehlers says flames were pouring out of a second story window when they arrived. He says the fire apparently spread through a common attic in the structures. The chief says at least four fire personnel were treated and released from a Clinton hospital for heat-related injuries. A Red Cross official says 11 apartments were damaged in the fire — the cause has yet to be determined.
