An eastern Iowa man convicted of shooting a police officer is seeking a new trial. 33-year old Mitchell Langel of Cedar Rapids was convicted of attempted murder for shooting a police officer who was trying to serve Langel committal papers. The officer sustained permanent eye injuries from the shooting. The state appeals court has sent the case back to Linn County court for a re-trial hearing based on a legal technicality.
