The University of Iowa marching band is appealing to Hawkeye football fans in an attempt to purchase new tubas. Marching band director Kevin Kastens is asking football fans to consider a contribution to help pay for the replacement of the 24-year old tubas.Kastens says they can only repair them old tubas so much as they’ve now got some problems with metal fatigue. He says it is a costly venture as each costs between 7 and 8 thousand dollars.Kastens says they are appealing to football fans because they are the group most exposed to the marching band. The band plans on debuting the new tubas when the Hawkeyes open the season against Kansas State this August in Kansas City.
