Sixteen restoration projects across Iowa will split more than one million dollars in grants from the State Historical Society of Iowa. Cynthia Nieb (NEEB) is grants program manager and says the money will breathe new live into some impressive projects.Nieb says the 16 projects were chosen from among 49 requests that were made to the Historic Site Project Grant, now in its second year.The grants range from 40-thousand to 100-thousand dollars for projects in all corners of the Hawkeye State. Nieb says the people behind the many restoration projects need the financial boost to continue their important work in maintaining Iowa history for future generations.Recipients are: African American Historical & Cultural Museum in Waterloo, Wapsipinicon Mill in Independence, Cherokee Depot, The Little Brown Church in Nashua, Amana’s Mill Race Project, National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library in Cedar Rapids, Wickiup Hill Conservation Center in Toddville, Red Oak Depot, Grotto of the Redemption in West Bend, Plymouth County Historical Museum, Fort Des Moines Black Officers Memorial, Carstens Farmstead in Shelby, William Mannatt House in Brooklyn, LeClaire House in Davenport and the Orpheum Theatre and the John Pierce Mansion — both in Sioux City.
