Nearly 58-million dollars in property tax relief would be forwarded to Iowalandowners if the tax plan approved by the House last night becomes law. Representative Christopher Rants, a Sioux City republican.says the plan increases the level of state support of public schools in theform of “per pupil” spending. That reduces the local property tax burden. The plan increases the amount of state support for talented and giftedprograms, too. A Senate-approved plan used different methods to forwardabout 18-million dollars less in property tax relief. Rants says the Houseis taking a different track than did the Senate.Governor Vilsack has said the state can afford about 40-million dollarsworth of property tax cuts.
