Trooper honored for saving a life

A rookie State Trooper who rescued two people trapped in an overturned car has received the “Governor’s Award of Valor.” Trooper Shane Davis waded into freezing water on December 5th of last year to free the trapped occupants of a car which slid off an icy road into a culvert. The accident happened in eastern Iowa, at the Stockton interchange on Interstate-80.Davis, who is 23 years old, had been on the job for three weeks when the accident occurred.Two other troopers on the scene administered C-P-R, but were unable to save the driver of the car. Passenger Stephanie Edwards survived. Davis, who grew up in Chicago, says being a trooper is a dream come true.Davis, who lives in DeWitt, graduated from Loras College in Dubuque in 1998, where he was an All-American football player. His coach was at the capitol for today’s ceremony.Davis’ mom, grandma and a brother were at today’s ceremony, too.
