There was a fire in a south central Iowa tavern this morning. The City Clerk says the bar was located on Main Street in Humeston.Surrounding fire departments were called in to put down the blaze — and the fire battle created another problem for Humeston residents, as the town’s water mains couldn’t stand up to the pressure.Willa Clark is a reporter with Humeston’s weekly newspaper, the “New Era.”She photographed the scene. She says there was a lot of smoke, but not a lot of flames.Original reports indicated there was an explosion, but it wasn’t. Adjacent businesses suffered some smoke and water damage. Humeston is about 21 miles southwest of Chariton.
