Part of the mystery has been solved that has forced Iowa’s only nuclear power plant to shut down. The Duane Arnold Energy Center near Palo shut down last Friday due to an electrical surge which was caused by a transformer inside the plant. A replacement transformer will be installed and tested soon. The plant remains in shut-down mode.
